JAN VERMEER

This launches the Masters of Painting series (in preparation, Gainsborough, Mantegna, Delacroix, Holbein) with a monograph on Jan Vermeer, master of pigment, expert in quality of light, whose pictures mirror today his own 17th century Holland, its homes, its opulent burghers. The text is written by a professor of the history of art at the state academy in Amsterdam. Virtually every accepted Vermeer work is reproduced, seven of them in color. These monographs make available art books of famous and less well-known artists at a moderate price.
