THE JUDGE AND THE JUNIOR EXHIBITOR

Mr. Hatch is a recognized judge in the hunter, jumper and hunter seat events at horse shows. His advice is based on long and continuous close observation of riders who exhibit their skills and their horses. He discusses what a judge is looking for and what he actually sees; he tells how many points go on and off for each item in the judging. The etiquette of equitation is of prime concern to judges and Mr. Hatch makes plain what judges don't like-- too much temperamental behavior by riders, impatience with mounts, too much loud parental guidance outside the ring, shoddily kept equipment and overmounted juniors.
