AMERICAN PANORAMA

This collection of short (circa one page) descriptive, and, to an extent, critical pieces has been published ""as an adjunct"" to a selected list of 350 American books which was chosen by the Carnegie Corporation of New York to be sent abroad as a portrait of America. this list was predicated on the belief that there is such a thing as an American culture and that these books are representative of that culture in its infinite variety, old and new, fiction, non-fiction, poetry. While the list itself was originally intended for readers outside the country, it can be used here as a basis for reading courses, for the home library, or for individual reader guidance. This volume however will only presumably be used in conjunction with that list.
