FOR VALOUR

To receive the Victoria Cross is to be awarded one of the greatest honors of the British Commonwealth. In this collection of true battle stories, the settings and centuries, the man and issues, differ -- but the level of heroism remains constant along with the esteemed prize won as a result of it. The outstanding bravery exhibited in the Indian Mutiny, the Zulu War of 1879, the Afghanistan campaigns, the Boer War, both World Wars, and the Korean war provides the arenas in which individual men of valour performed phenomenal deeds. Eric Leyland intelligently retells some of them in succinct in what might be an exciting supplement to English history or an interesting addition to military primarily for the male audience.
