KIRKUS REVIEW

Another of the American Folkways books, this time of that little known region which includes the plsho panhandle, Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. All the ""cruelly, lust, sweet, greed, tears and passion"" which went into that country is told through the stories of the men who gave it. Indigenous material, colorful, dramatic, these tales of mountain men, of redskins, of prospectors, of soldiers, vigilantes, Chinese, cowboys, outlaws, copper barons, farmers, herders, some good, some bad, some nuturious. And today -- a country still primitive -- with a great potential in its oil, wheat, forests, cattle. Lively yarnage, with values which are authentically American as well as dramatic reading. This series is making a real contribution to the understanding of our own country.
