CREWEL EMBROIDERY by Erica Wilson

CREWEL EMBROIDERY

By

Publisher: Scribner

Miss Wilson is a foremost designer with classes and pupils in New York- and a background of training at the Royal School of Needlework in London. In this book she has given what is virtually a ""course"" in crewel embroidery, now undergoing very lively revival of interest. Its history is outlined from its classic sources to its enthusiastic acceptance from the time of Elizabeth I to the Industrial Revolution. But the main body of the book is the how to-do aspect, from preliminary instruction on materials, equipment, patterns, use of a frame, caution in color, and so on- going on then to 64 different stitches, illustrated, step by step, with diagrams. A final section deals with blocking the finished work and some pertinent facts to help adaptation of designs. Special market.
