KIRKUS REVIEW

With the immense number of books on flowers published, it is extraordinary that so seldom has a book been focussed on the flowers of the South. This is an excellent field guide and reference book. 500 flowers are described, and there are 300 pen and ink illustrations for identification. Among the 55 colored plates (good sales factors, but less successful than the line drawings) there are some effective arrangements with diagrams in pen and ink indicating the individual flowers. From Virginia to Texas- wild flowers, exotic and cultivated flowers- and descriptive text directed to the layman. There is some data on transplanting which will appeal to those who want wild gardens.
