That not all comers felt alike about the War of Independence sparks the theme of this story of Connecticut's share in the struggle. Young Jason Reeves, apprentice to Silas Bingham's newspaper, The Litchfield Lightning, was himself host to embattled opinions. Despite his brother's unwavering patriot opinions and determination to join Washington's forces, Jason- and many others- needed to think things out. His apprenticeship during the early months helped convince him of the rightness of the fight for self government, of freedom's way.
