THE NEXT FIFTY YEARS ON THE MOON

Within the next fifty years, man will have established upon the moon a colony peopled by scientists and auxiliary personnel (about one hundred women among the latter, ""since in most cases laboratory technicians are more often women than men""), watched over by a ""commodore"" who with the aid of television and the U.S. military will keep constant watch over every room and section throughout the colony. And what are they doing there? Discovering and mining all sorts of valuable gems, gold and silver, establishing factories and commercial industries, and possibly as a spin-off making dramatic medical discoveries. Bergaust's 50 year timetable draws on some currently projected programs but most of his hard information is included in the Glossary of Lunar Terms ""as culled from the Illustrated Space Encyclopedia"" which was edited by the present author. Many of the illustrations (which are liberally though randomly scattered throughout the text) resemble promotional material for futuristic garden apartments, and all told readers will find as realistic a projection of how astronauts and scientists will spend the next fifty years on the moon on Star Trek.
