A return to the heartland of Fotomats and carry-out chicken, from the woman who claims gym clothes are the No. 1 cause of pollution. Bombeck continues to rattle the traps of suburbia and to find in the family skeleton small bones of contention--lost jackets, loud snoring, and ""illegal possession of junk food."" There are arch babysitters, overbearing butchers, and lovingly rotten kids attached to ""lucky underwear""--they wear it day after day. Also, game-show parodies (""CORONARY""), fleeting fashions (gladiator boots, scratch and smell T-shirts), and burning questions (are family vacations legal? is there life after mine?). Most of this is gently recycled from her syndicated columns but it's reasonably organized, quite fluent, and fresh enough to hook the hundred thousands who found The Grass Is Always Greener right up their alley.
