KIRKUS REVIEW

The Haycox stamp of superiority on a story of the Oregon-California trail which is the background for the crossed romance of pack train owner Stuart Logan and the fiancee of his best friend, Lucy. Logan protects George, whose gambling turns him into a thief and murderer because of Lucy, becomes engaged to Caroline, intimidates night rider Bragg, and helps to put down an uprising of the Rogue Indians which Bragg has aroused. Caroline recognizes that Logan is not for her, and George is killed in one last foolish gesture, so that Logan and Lucy can at last acknowledge their love.
