AMERICAN FAITH: Its Religious, Political and Economic Foundations

This is an important book, and a book destined for a long life in colleges and public libraries. There is perhaps nothing sensationally new in the facts included, but -- in so far as I know -- it is new to marshall those facts in the way he has done. He has retold American history in the terms of its religion, and envisaged that religion through its part in the political, social and economic developments of the country. He shows how the roots of our religious history stem back to medieval days in Europe, particularly how the Reformation set the key. He then follws the history of the various colonies, the offshoots of new creeds and sects, the individuals responsible and the effect, on the country. The history goes through the Civil War.
