Absorbing in the step by step revelation both of what is happening in prison camps here, under the very noses of the authorities, and at the same time the detailing of the tragic story of T, still scaresly more than a child, whose early faith in the greatness of the Hitler dream had been shattered while he was still a schoolboy by betrayal of his honor at the hands of Nazi power politics, a power which still reached out for vende when he was a prisoner of the enemy. There's an authentic feel to the story -- a story doubtless repeated many times in these days -- a story that leaves no shred of sympathy for while at the same time showing that its victim include many within its own ranks.
