THE SILVER FLEET

Southern California once again (see Bright Summer- 1953 -P.427) as locale for another occupational story- this time of Portuguese tuna fishermen of San Diego. The story is told through the adventures of eleven year old Sebastian Maritimo who yearns to spend the summer on his father's southbound voyage. He has to earn the privilege, and as he does, the voyage becomes exciting and the boy learns more and more about tuna fishing. A mystery on board ship adds spice, and contact with a government conservation specialist broadens his interest in the socio-economic problems that should eventually be worked out by all the Pacific area.
