KIRKUS REVIEW

Here is a picture of the Russians today,-- proving their efficiency, their determination, their rigid obedience to orders, with heroism taken for granted. From January to September 1941 -- an anecdotal, intimate picture of the country and the people. The relief and joy when war with Germany was a reality, and the country -- in three days -- on a full war footing, military and civilian. Scenes behind the lines -- in bombec cities and towns -- getting out his story -- broadcasting what he could. After seeing then in action at last, he had no doubt of victory, he sees no defeatism in the Russian make-up. Not a book for the long picture -- but good reading now.
