CLAUDELLE INGLISH

...beautiful young daughter of a share cropper lives for the day when Linn Varner will come home from the army and marry her. Instead he jilts her and the heart-broken girl listens to her embittered mother's advice -- or that part of it pertaining to getting presents from men in return for ""love"". She disgraces the leading merchant and the preacher and brings about the death of one suitor before she is killed by another. As she is dying back comes Linn, unmarried and still in love with her. This slice of Caldwell-land is hard to take seriously, but will presumably please his devoted followers and go on to big sales in the paperbacks.
