BIG RIDE

There is perhaps more scholarship than art in this fictional account of the trek made by 240 Spaniards who left Mexico for California in 1775. The situations, hazards, obstacles, etc., have been familiar fare for many a day -- Apache attacks, thirst, mountain snows river fordings. The basic plot wardrobe needs some inventive accessories or vigorous characterization -- qualities not evident here. Recommended for a California audience.
