KIRKUS REVIEW

During the reign of K'ang H the Jesuits were closely associated with the monarch and played an important role in the affairs of the subjects and their ruler. Though this book is expensive and of limited interest, the Jesuits, Roman Catholics and readers who follow Chinese History, will enjoy it, for it is delightfully written, with a fine balance of information, Eastern color and feeling. Besides its religious appeal, it should have a double sale with travel books, for it is history, biography, art, Chinese lo and customs an ambitious book but well done.
