Esther Hall is writing perhaps the best stories for older girls being written today. She has a keen sense of plot -- and her characters are not wishy-washy pasteboard characters, but flesh and blood young people. This new story of the red-headed girl, Carol, who ran her father's newspaper for him, while he was ill, is first and last a good yarn, and in between a good newspaper story, with a vocational slant to it -- and just enough hint of romance.
