MARILDA'S HOUSE

A simple story of a lost inheritance regained takes on some added humor and pathos through a realistic narration of 12 year old Marilda Dunbar's adventures. When her actress mother has died and her ill and bookish father has gone of to the southwest to try to make a new but unsuccessful start in life, Marilda is left with the post-mistress in the small eastern town where she was brought up. There to tempt her and add to her miseries is the Dunbar family house, old, rambling and highly taxable. How Marilda makes some new friends and a surprising find, and manages to re-acquire her property as it is auctioned off- turns into a credible well paced story.
