When Polly, after two years of college, is forced to take a job, she eagerly accepts a position with a small California television station. Her role as assistant on a woman's cooking program ends in sudden disaster. Casual in her approach to detail, she makes a parody of the well-run program. Able to salvage what she has learned and humbled by her lesson, she proceeds to a secure and satisfying television career. Much detail of television life, a good peppering of the ordeals of ""the first job"", and a likeable heroine give flavor to what is basically a routine girl's career story.
