THE MAP OF DAYS by Ethel Bollean

Published in England before A Gay Family, under the title Arches of the Years. It sustains the author's reputation for story telling; it gives a new sort of central character, and a new theme; but it lacks the innate charm of quiet humor, of penetrating understanding of English country life today, which was the chief claim of A Gay Family, and -- in lesser degree -- When Yellow Leaves. It is a good tale, entertaining reading, romance and adventure on a grand scale, however, this story of Jack Chisholm, lusty Scot, and of his adventures in wars and women, the world over. I should rank it ahead of When Yellow Leaves -- but not equal to A Gay Family for probable sales value.
