KIRKUS REVIEW

Fictionized history in a novel based on the journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, on other source material and on a retracing of the route. Sacagawea, the Bird Woman, guide of the expedition and squaw of the voyageur, Charbonneau, is the heroine. At times the fiction treatment is clouded by too meticulous an examination of the historical facts, but, even so, it makes good reading, and a plausible and entertaining recreation of the story.
