What do you play/on a summer day?"" is city-kid Josephine's persistent question in the Kessler's fourth (closing?) book of seasonal doggerel. The answer is nobody's playing anything: the robin is nest-building, grandparents are roof-gardening, dog, cat, and worm are sleeping, the policewoman is at her post, and anybody with any sense is at the beach. The text is cheerful and the colorful pictures relentlessly so, except when Expression A, upturned mouth, is substituted for Expression B, downturned mouth. ""Goodnight/ Tomorrow will be/a new summer day./Hooray!"" Whoopee.
