WHAT'S INSIDE THE BOX?

Much ado about the moans and growls that Freddy Fox hears coming from a big box at the edge of the woods. The friends that Freddy summons to the scene, and their guesses as to who might be inside the box, occasion not only an illustrated roster of animals but also a rundown of elementary concepts: number (the creature has four legs), spatial relations (it might hop over a stump, crawl under a fence, etc.), and relative size (the box isn't big enough for an elephant). But neither is this corny pseudomystery big enough to hold the entire head start curriculum the Kesslers try to cram into it--and the undifferentiated humor of Leonard Kessler's animal sketches won't put the lesson across.
