THE MYSTICAL THEOLOGY OF ST. BERNARD

The fact that Gilson's opinions run counter to most scholars is in itself a recommendation for this book, an incentive and selling point for theologians and philosophers who like controversial matters. For Gilson is a genius, a great mystic and philosopher himself, a pioneer in the realm of the mind and soul whose originality can be trusted, if not to find new continents, at least to provide profitable exploration. He sets out to prove that St. Bernard's mysticism is systematized and scientific, in contradiction to the general belief that it is practical. His reasoning is rich fare.
