KIRKUS REVIEW

Eudora Weity is known through her short stories, and is a rather subtle, tasts not for the general reader. This is a long short story, a legend with a edge. It is the story of Jamie, robber bridegroom, who meets the beautiful but far from truthful Rosemary in a woods. First he robs her of her clothes, next of her virginity, finally he takes her to keep house for him and his band. Too great curiosity and too little faith on her part cost her Jamie -- and he leaves her. After a hard space of experiences she finds him again, become a respected merchant of New Orleans, done with wilder ways.
