Sinbad isn't as easy reading as tradition would have us believe. Even I -- who gobbled fairy tales in wholesale fashion -- never went back after the initial reading. Hence the putting it under the Read Aloud section. The retelling may help popularize the stories. The illustrations have a gay postery quality, but on closer inspection, there is a queerly incomplete effect in the color plates, and some of them are rather frightening. Merchandise value chiefly lies in the extensive use of color.
