Not just another ""covered wagon story"" -- but one of the best I've read (and I've read too many for my taste). This is based on the actual experiences of the author's grandmother, and tells of the happy Marays and how their spirit of galety and good fellowship kept up the morale of the wagon train of which they were a part, as they followed the route from St. Joe across the plains and mountains and deserts and finally, when almost within sight of their goal, they met near defeat, as they were showed in on the lerra summit, looking towards the promised land of the Sacramento Valley. Credibly handled with a sense of authentic background of the round of life and experience on the trail, culminating in a climax that almost rivals the famous Donner Pass story.
