Father Kennedy's sixteenth book is on the act of believing. First, there is a lengthy analysis of the psychological, sociological and religious ramifications. Next comes a series of interviews with articulate, well-known ""believers"" -- Ann Landers, Eugene McCarthy, B. F. Skinner, etc. -- on the quality and nature of their own convictions. The final section comprises a study of the characteristics of belief systems in organized religion -- and here the author argues the importance of institutional Christianity. Given the essential nature of the subject, this may well be one of Kennedy's most important works. Certainly, it is effective and will be recognized as such by his large following.
