THE CHURCH IN THE NEXT DECADE by Eugene Carson Blake

THE CHURCH IN THE NEXT DECADE

The newly elected General Secretary of the World Council of Churches brings together here various sermons, essays, and articles bearing upon the prospect of the Christian churches for the next decade. The first four chapters attempt a general statement of the Reformation Faith. This is followed by a section presenting a diverse number of problems of a social nature with which the churches must deal, ranging from poverty to peace to the ""far right."" The final section deals with various ecumenical issues, such as the nature of ministry and the problems of church unity. By their character as statements made in public discourse, the discussions do not offer thorough treatment of these topics. They do provide, however, concise treatment of key issues, and at times offer the kind of quotable statement which has made some of Dr. Blake's utterances particularly stimulating in church circles. For the general church reader who wishes to be conversant with the kind of thinking going on among church leaders today.
