KIRKUS REVIEW

Yet another pair of private eyes, Barnes vaguely square and Howe half-hip, in their second appearance, this time hired by a money order firm where routine customer embezzlement blossoms into a large, inside job. Howe hits the Harlem racket scene, a gay fringe, and hunts for the money. Two murders, a duel with foils, a torture threat and a chase don't really move this along.
