CHUCHO: The Boy With the Good Name

Grandmother had told Chucho, 12, that in Huajuapan with relatives he might learn to be a weaver of hats. But the long journey was long enough without the care of younger brother Filimo. Still, after Grandmother's death, Chucho found he could not leave Filimo to the care of strangers. The reader never doubts that the two brothers will find a happy ending in their destination. This is an easy-reading story about Mexico. But Chucho does not emerge as a flesh and blood boy. He seems rather like one of the clay figures which are used to plant with cacti.
