Brave Baby Elephant (p.J-229) no longer travels alone. This time he goes with his mother to France. Mama is quite progressive in educational techniques and begins immediately to introduce the language as they eat, du pain, du beurre, le gateau, as they pack, l'habit, le chapeau, le pantalon and as they talk, bonne nuit, s'il vous plait, pardonnez moi. They depart in a flurry, arrive in France sur le bateau and are as thrilled as we with all the French they have so deftly absorbed. A delightful story, enhanced by the playful illustrations from always able Leonard Weisgard, functions to amuse as well as to initiate beginners in the everyday expressions of French conversations.
