TIM'S PLACE

By

Publisher: Putnam

A somewhat overstated story of an Austrian boy's adaptation to his adopted American family. Stephen, an eighteen-year-old friend of Tim Halstead who had died in the war, was taken into the Halstead home on the wishes of their son. However, although Stephen worked hard to please, he could never overcome the distrust of teen-age Lucy and her younger brother, Ricky, of his ""foreign"" ways. Soon Lucy and Ricky began to realize his fine qualities, and Stephen's brave act in rescuing three children from death in the snow win him the admiration of the town and a permanent place in the Halstead family. The cruelty of the American teen-agers is difficult to accept, but this is well-intentioned.
