EASY QUILLERY: Projects with Paper Coils and Scrolls

A pastime of ""Colonial ladies,"" the craft of paper rolling is introduced here with instructions for rolling different kinds of coils (round, pinched into heart shapes, etc.) and then employing them to decorate such dispensable geegaws as a pendant made of an eyeglass lens, a bracelet cut from a plastic bottle, a cardboard tube napkin ring, and the inevitable pincushion. Amidon peaks with what must be the quintessential quillery project--Pierre, a cutout paper poodle adorned with quillery curls and put to work as a lampshade ornament. Considering the market for holiday crafts Amidon's Christmas wreath, toothpick snowflake, and fancy Easter egg might have supplemental possibilities, and the small three-dimensional bugs shown without directions on the last page (an afterthought?) seem more promising than the featured projects. But overall neither the ideas nor the utilitarian pictures will attract much attention to what is, in any case, a marginal craft activity.
