This takes place on a safari -- by plane and Landrover -- in East Africa where it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish the people from the animals. Among them are a grimly predatory and very rich old woman, Edna, fastened on her difficult grandson Roland. And Angus Hawkins who has annexed recently widowed Apple (she turns everyone on) and submerged her in flagrant sex, drugs and booze. The hyenas seem to be everywhere en route and are waiting at the close when the plane crashes and one by one the survivors die off to provide the final crunch, leaving Edna and Roland in their last contest of will. Author Rhodes tries to recruit sympathy here and there (for Roland, Apple and the decent British guide) only after having shamelessly exposed everyone to death-defying incidents and gastric insults. Urgent trash.
