KIRKUS REVIEW

A family and community story centers about seventeen year old Casey, daughter of a newspaper editor. First the marriage of her elder brother, a college student, threatened to split the unity of Casey's close-knit family: then her father's crusader efforts to clean up Tom Town, a deteriorating section of their community, brought the family under powerful pressure from influential local powers. Casey finds romance and settles her future vocation when Mike, the youngest member of the Redd family, is seriously ill and she resolves to be a nurse. A number of threads here result in a disorganized effect. Characterization is so superficial that it adds to the unintegrated character of the book.
