KIRKUS REVIEW

To have a professional art historian, an American who has made her home in Florence, as companion guide to that city seems felicitous. Miss Borsook divides Florence, a city she considers ""at once immensely attractive and intimidating"" for the visitor, into neighborhoods. In each she gives a summary of the chief monuments and proceeds to details of art and history. An introductory chapter offers a historical overview of the ""new Athens on the Arno""; a closing section provides pracical information.
