A lot of atmosphere and very little story are included in this narrative of a vacation spent by four very British children at their great-aunt's antique English country home. Basically the holiday seems to be one of those idyllic ones, with everyone lazily taking things as they come without the intervention of any important happenings. The only adventure involves the toby jug which occasionally comes to life and reminisces about the childhood of their imposing hostess. It's a very nice group of children and a lovely holiday but not many readers are likely to be satisfied with as little action.
