Being called Ebbie was all right when Edward pronounced it that way himself--after all ""it was very hard to say 'Eddie' with no front teeth."" Later, when he decides he has outgrown his baby name, Eddie has to stage a demonstration to reeducate his family--leaving his right name taped to the door of his room and spelled out in toothpicks on the kitchen table, and hiding under the bed when Uncle Arthur arrives, calling ""Where is Ebby?"". You know the grownups are bound to get the point sooner or later, but Eddie's small, nebbishy family acts this out deadpan. Slight but truthful humor.
