TEACH US HOW TO PRAY

It seems that Father Evely can hardly do wrong. His That Man is You was, and remains, a Catholic ""bestseller,"" and his more recent Suffering shows every sign of becoming a little classic in its field. Teach Us How to Pray is, like Father Evely's earlier books, a work of meditation. As the title indicates, it deals principally with prayer--what prayer is, the meaning and purpose of prayer, the place of prayer in life, and, of course, methods of prayer. The assets of the book are primarily those of the author: readability, reliability, incisiveness, comprehensiveness. The liabilities, if there are any, are the result primarily of one or two chapters which seem curiously dated--particularly that on ""The Rosary,"" which bears the stamp of pre-conciliar piety that is so conspicuously absent from the author's other works. Perhaps the answer to the mystery lies in the fact that this book is composed of two smaller, undated, works published in France some time ago. In any case, the lure of Father Evely's name, and the size of his following, will assure a substantial Sale for this valuable, though slightly flawed, volume.
