THE NIGHTMARE CHASE

With an apropos dedication to P. M. Hubbard, this is more of a monomood piece and far less of a story than usual--all taking place on the underside of experiences to be shunted aside and ellipses to be Exiled in. After an indecent exposure in the library where she works, Jacintha goes off to take care of a rich old lady frightened out of her wits and slowly scared to her death. Not this writer's best (Jacintha is naive and the aura of apprehension almost audible), but perhaps enough to fasten on your curiosity and sympathy.
