Racy story of the sea, of whaling, near mutiny, a cruel captain -- around about 1856. Young Peter McLean, son of one of the owners of a whale company, ships aboard the Ella Gordon, out of New Bedford, bound for the Antarctic. He intends to see for himself what the life is like -- so he can better conditions when he comes into control. But his trip is complicated by the fact that his captain is sworn enemy of his father, and Peter's years at sea are colored by hatred and distrust. Plenty happens, making exciting reading for a boy who loves sea yarns.
