Elderly Mrs. Robertson, who lives alone, is found dead- and it is her nephew, Charles, who maintains that it must be murder-although save for some letters in her attic with a potential value there would seem to be no motive. Her neighbors, the Baldreys and the Heydons, provide new sources of suspicion (complicated by David Baldrey's death) and steadily shifting points of interest.
