SALIERI UND MOZART

Publisher: Cotta'sche Buchhandlung Nachfolger- Stuttgart

One of the most delightful books published recently, this biography of the composers Salieri and Mozart and their relationship. Salieri, older, ambitious, succeeded by earnest application and his jealousy of the brilliant, spontaneous younger man led him to hinder the career of Mozart. Other eminent composers and musicians of the period fill the canvas, Gassman, Gluck, etc., with their contributions to the development of the opera. There is furthermore a vivid and entertaining picture of the life and customs of the time, in Italy, Austria and France, so that the interest of the book does not lie solely in its evaluation of the musical trend of the period and its greatest figure, Mozart.
