KIRKUS REVIEW

A few years ago the well known Catholic publisher, F. J. Sheed was asked to lecture to a group of teaching nuns on the subject of teaching religion. The subject was chosen by the nuns and publication of the lectures is also at their request. Mr. Sheed disavows any knowledge of pedagogy and he carefully abstains from any disston of teaching methods. He is primarily concerned with the results. Judging the teaching being done by the knowledge of the Catholic faith and the commitment to Christ by those who have gs through Catholic schools, he finds that teaching deplorably deficient. While those he encounters are true to the Church and its , the faith has not really taken hold of them as it should. This he attributes to the widespread use of the formalities of religious instruction without the pupils a real sense of commitment to Christ and his Church. This should be a and challenging book for all Catholic teachers.
