Holding sincerity and commendable restraint mark this story of three years of life in the Malayan jungles fighting behind Japanese lines. Reported missing, believed dead, the author was one of the British irregulars, always in danger, who harried the enemy, trained Chinese guerrillas, kept up the unending work of resistance. These are chapters of perilous journeys, of adventures on the side of hunting, of continual brushes with the enemy, of two times a prisoner and breathless escapes, of ill health as yet another enemy, and of a will to endure in spite of everything. An intense record of jungle warfare and human endeavor, this has a special place in accounts of the war and is rewarding reading.
