GOLDEN ADMIRAL

An unhackneyed phase of the Francis Drake saga provides background for a picaresque adventure yarn, in which the hero is Henry Wyatt, who became one of the lesser stars of Her Majesty's Navy. Wyatt's adventures reveal elements of the difficulties assailing England after the uprooting of the farmers and the loosing on the land of ruffians, and he encounters disaster after disaster, imperilling his freedom and his marriage to the girl he loved, necessitating his hasty departure by sea under Drake, before gallantry on action won him the Queen's pardon. Much of the pace and vigor of the Hornblower yarns in the telling.
