This account of the First Crusade under Bohemund to Jerusalem in 1096-99 follows the adventures of Sir Edmund de Montgomerie and his twin sister, Rosamund, landless Normans shipwrecked in their flight from England. En route, Edmund suffers from treachery, double play etc. and all the ramifications of the ""Journey of God""chivalry, brutality, the impact of eastern civilization etc.- color the story to give it a new surge of interest.
